“When I was a kid, I really enjoyed using small instruments to take apart watches, toys, and other gadgets and then put them back together. Being good with my hands and a keen visual learner came naturally to me. So when I decided to pursue a career in medicine, I wanted to choose a specialty that would allow me to use intricate, hands-on skill to improve people’s lives. During my first rotation in medical school, I discovered that the field of ophthalmology was for me.

After completing my ophthalmology residency, I spent two years of subspecialty fellowship training in retinal diseases and surgery. Today, my advanced training and expertise allows me to help people with serious vision problems. I find this is both personally and professionally rewarding.”

Outside of the office, Dr. Bloom enjoys spending time with his wife and their two daughters. He is also an avid runner and has competed in two Philadelphia Marathons, numerous Philadelphia Distance Runs, and the Philadelphia Broad Street Run. Dr. Bloom and his wife are actively involved in the Southern Poverty Law Center, an internationally known nonprofit organization that teaches tolerance.

“To me, there is no profession more noble than that of medicine because it allows you to serve the health needs of people and improve their quality of life. This is why I entered the field of health care. After earning my medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, I wanted to specialize in something that would combine the aspects of family medicine and surgery, and this led me to ophthalmology. I really enjoy interacting with my patients and helping them overcome their vision problems.

I am dedicated to providing comprehensive eyecare along with the utmost personalized care. This means taking the time to explain your condition and any recommended treatment in simple, easy-to-understand language and treating you with respect, dignity, and compassion, every step of the way.”

Dr. Antonello’s commitment to his community isn’t merely as an ophthalmologist, but also as a concerned, involved citizen. “The daughter of a doctor, I witnessed firsthand the rewards my father experienced by helping other people. When the time came to decide what I wanted to do with my life, the decision was easy. As a medical student, I found ophthalmology exciting and, ultimately, a way to have a significant positive impact on people’s lives. To me, it seemed there was no greater reward than helping people maintain and protect their eyesight.

My mission as an eye physician and surgeon is to improve people’s quality of life. I aim to help people realize not just the importance of their vision to their lives but also that they can take control of their health and improve their quality of life. And I’ve learned that spending time and listening carefully are central to my effectiveness and, in the end, the success of the care they receive. While educating patients about their eyesight and the care of their vision is also essential to my mission, experience has taught me that I have as much to learn from them.”

Dr. Pesce is a wife and mother of two children, a boy and a girl, in whom she hopes to instill the caring and compassion for life she learned from her parents. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and baking, bicycling, and going to zoos and museums with her family.
